Step 1: Define Your Competition. Make a list of the competitors in your market and identify why they each pose a threat. Identify the strengths and weaknesses in their websites. Who are the leaders? Perform reverse key word searches to determine what sites are getting the bulk of the traffic from your key words and adjust your strategy accordingly.

Step 3: Copy What Works for Others. Identify what websites are sending your competitors traffic and get in on the action. The relationships that you develop with other online businesses can determine the fate of your marketing success. Analyze referral and destination traffic and identify new affiliate websites and link building opportunities that you can capitalize on.

Step 4: Identify the Websites That Send Traffic to Your Site. You can easily identify which websites deliver the most benefit based on page views, conversion rates, and bounce rates. Perform a destination traffic analysis to determine where your customers are going after they leave your site and develop strategies to keep them on your site longer and purchase your products or services.

Step 5: Stay on Top. You need to continue to educate yourself and study how others became successful in the market place. You need to be flexible and ready to respond to changes in the marketplace by adjusting your online marketing strategy to respond to economic, technological and social changes. Constantly be on the lookout for the critical information you need to ensure success and minimize risk.

After all is in place, step back and try to view the big picture. Try to look at it from another angle, so that you can shed light on positive methods to attract customers, boost sales, or raise your spirits about your resolve to begin your online business. If you are first starting out, expect setbacks. They come and go. Keep on track. Continue to redirect your thoughts to what you want.

If you focus precisely, you will always get what you put your mind to. The more you know about the business and what it takes to be successful, the more likely you will be to implement the necessary measures for success.

I attended the Copy Paste Systems webinar held prior to the launch date of January 14, 2010. Paul Ponna began the presentation by giving a brief overview of his background and entry into affiliate marketing. It was refreshing to hear his believable, straight-forward approach. This was no “pie in the sky” or “magic pill” speech. While some affiliate market sellers promise you can become a millionaire while relaxing at your pool, Ponna bluntly pointed out that making affiliate marketing fortunes use to be much easier. That isn’t to say that having a highly profitable affiliate marketing business can’t be accomplished. But you do need to put at least a little bit of time and effort into it.
